"Escorting me tonight is my dad, Tim Marek. I can't ask for a better hero and role model. Raising four girls, you can all imagine how interesting his life can be. Let's be honest, how many men do you see that can rock a pig tie?
My dad and I share a passion, and that is the passion for agriculture. A few years ago we also shared the same goal, to win Grand Champion Market Hog at the National Western Stock Show. We worked hours in the barn and loaded up to show in Denver, Colorado. After a long day I found myself on the green carpet in the grand champion drive. All I could think about was my goal becoming complete. The only person I remember seeing during that drive is my dad, he was kneeling next to the ring and every time I looked at him, he winked. At that moment, I knew no matter the outcome, he was proud of me and everything was going to be ok. A few minutes later the judge slapped my pig and shook my hand. I had won the National Western Stock Show.
I couldn't have done that with out my family's help. So thank you dad, for all the support and all the "winks" you have given me throughout the years."
I gave that speech in 2012 at the Washington County Queen Contest. You know something is important when you can remember it word for word two years later. Tonight, the 2014 Washington County Fair queen was crowed and I hope and pray that the deserving, lucky young lady will get the same amazing experience out of her journey as fair queen that I did.
